Camera: Leica M8, Sony Nex5, Sigma SD14, Canon 5D, Olympus E-1, Panasonic DMC L1, Pentax K10D Grand Prix, Nikon D1X, Contax RTS III, Contax 167MT, Exakta RTL1000, Minolta X-700, Canon T90, Canon F-1, Pentacon Six TL.I would like to make sure this is accurate for cinema lenses.Im guessing early 90s Bought it instead of the Canon L zoom in the same range because it was about 13 the price.
I wish I had other Angenieux lenses but those I lust after are beyond my reach. Or a CZ 16-80mm I cant help you with aging it but it is a nice lens. I bought one for my a100 and it was on my a580 most of the time. Perhaps only the manufacturer might be able to make sense of the serial number. How they have been used abused and stored is whats important. Ive seen almost new lenses offered for sale in terrible condition compaired to my 25 year lenses. Sony did some improvements on this lens later on and changed over to metal gearing. I cant remember when I bought it, but as I used it on my a580 I bought in 2010, it was at least over a year before then. When was it released 2007 with the a700 Im work at the moment, but I can P.M the serial number of mine. If the numbers run in any logical sequence, you might be able to work out if its older or newer than mine. Mine had some hammer over the years, so if the numbers similar or later, you can guess its a later version and strong enough for plenty if use. The reported incident serial number are starting in the range 384xxxxx387xxxxx. Well to carry on from my earlier post the serial number of mine is 38409. Sigma Lens Lookup Serial Numbers For ToadstoolsNice and sturdy, no problem with the gears and despite being within the above serial numbers for toadstools AND being used many times in the rain, moving from outdoor frozen conditions to hot centrally heated environments in the winter, all the glass is still fungus free Just to add, had a quick look on Flickr, and it seems that I was using this lens from about mid 2008. I bought it used, so I would say that mine must have been made fairly early. I will stop worrying and start enjoying this nice lens.:) BTW, there is also some strange number on the front side of the lens, in my case an 8 digit number.
